Broadway and the Quarantine
Welcome back blog! Did ya miss me? Of course you didn't. You've been watching musicals like I have right? Wrong. Welcome to 2020, the year of the Corona virus, aka the year that Broadway shut down (at least to us theater goers). Unless you have truly been living off the grid, everyone knows about how the country has shut down as we try to overcome the virus. Unfortunately, this means that we can no longer see any of the shows we want to see. I haven't seen anything since last January's Come From Away, but believe me, I wish I did while I had the chance. We are all adjusting during this time. For example, I had to adjust to working from home and keeping myself entertained, including picking up new and old hobbies. Until recently, there weren't very many ways to watch musicals without going onto some unusual (potentially shady) sites. Luckily, Netflix has given us Shrek the Musical and Newsies, while Youtube gave us Legally Blonde and Cats (the stage musical, not the movie 😝). And just a few days ago, we were blessed with the OBC version of Hamilton🎉 on Disney +. I very eagerly set up the movie and even celebrated while eating HAM sandwiches. Unfortunately, the videos we do have do not help much with the recent tragedies of Broadway shows having to close and the recent death of Nick Cordero (Earl of Waitress) due to the Corona virus. I haven't been very vocal on any social media regarding anything that has been going on, and while I'm not sure a Broadway blog is necessarily the right place to mention it, I just wish everyone take care of themselves safely, and remember that the sooner we ALL practice social distancing and safety measures, the sooner life can get back to normal, and the sooner we can start watching the shows we know and love again.
